Education

The education at structural mechanics involves both graduate and postgraduate courses as well as master's dissertations. The main goal is to give the students a clear and in-depth understanding of structural mechanics by using the models and patterns from mechanics and physics, the language of mathematics and numerical methods and letting problem-solving and design be the goal.

The various courses are offered to students from civil- and mechanical engineering and engineering physics. Courses are also given within the industrial design curriculum. The courses deal with topics such as: mechanics, mechanics of materials, frame and truss analysis, finite element method, beam theory, structural dynamics and applied computer programming.

An important part of the education is the master's dissertation, which normally is conducted during the last semester. The work done in the framework of a master's thesis is often performed in cooperation with industry, but can also be an important part of ongoing research projects.
